Piano tuition and Flute tuition

My name is Dr Elaine Horner and I am an experienced music tutor based in Darlington. I offer expert tuition in piano, flute, music theory and composition both at home and online.

I strive to make learning music interesting and stimulating

Those of my pupils who sit exams in piano and flute pass with high marks with many frequently invited to perform in the High Scorers’ Concerts.

Lessons are conducted in a friendly and informal manner and comprise a wide and thorough musical education. 

My teaching style is adapted to each pupil’s ability and personality and I hope all my pupils enjoy their lessons. In my role as music tutor I encourage my pupils to choose music to play that they like. If students are taking composition lessons with me, I  encourage them to write music in styles that they like. Theory lessons are focussed around whatever syllabus the pupil is following. Aural training and development in sight reading skills are incorporated into lessons as a matter of course.

I teach all styles of music (apart from improvised jazz). This applies to the piano and flute and to the more theoretical components of music.

Take grades or learn for pleasure

Pupils take grade exams if they wish but I also teach those who just want to learn for pleasure. If a pupil chooses to do the grade exams, I offer a choice of the ABRSM grades and the Trinity College grades.

Lessons are suitable for all ages, from 6 yrs upwards, and people at every level, from beginners to advanced. Many of my pupils are adults, who, again, range from those who are absolute beginners to those who are preparing for diplomas.

Piano and flute lessons and lessons in theory and composition, take place at my home (in the west end of Darlington). Online lessons are also available in piano, flute, theory and composition.
